Blackjack Tournaments Online
A blackjack tournament online is a sporting version of the traditional blackjack game, where instead of competing against the dealer, the players compete against each other in elimination rounds. Players are competing for a top prize that can range anywhere from a small jackpot of $500.00, to heavy-hitting tournaments that offer prizes as large as one million dollars. Blackjack Tournaments Online tend to attract quite a following, so you can expect large numbers of players to turn out for these competitions. This is, in fact one of the upsides to playing online. Unlike conventional brick and mortar buildings with limited space, you have all the room you need in cyberspace, so nobody is turned away. Everyone who wants to compete for cash prizes has to pay to join these online tournaments: what’s called “buying in.” These tournaments are usually inexpensive to join (you actually can play for free too – more on that later). In each round the players will be dealt a predetermined number of hands. All of the players in the tournament start with the same number of chips. The players compete against the dealer directly in order to win points in the form of chips (chips don’t have any value, and don’t reflect on the jackpot). You are competing against the dealer, it’s true. Newbies may not like that idea because so much is made of the advantages that dealers have during regular casino-style play. But the dealer, and the house, have nothing to gain from the tournament. So the usual advantage dealers have over players is irrelevant in tournament play, and should be one less detail over which you should concern yourself. While the game is in progress, players are wise to keep tabs on their opponents’ betting as best as possible. Simply stated: luck plays a role in these competitions. Your arsenal may include card-counting mastery, or any other magic formulas you think you’ve acquired. Here’s what that means: In tournament play, an inexperienced player is one lucky, reckless, bet away from winning so big that you may have a lot of trouble catching up before the round ends. Fortunately, Lady Luck giveth, and she taketh away too. The same reckless bettors can just as easily knock themselves out of the competition when those risky bets inevitably don’t go their way. The number of hands played can be anywhere from 10 to 50. At the end of each round, the top one or two players will advance. The other players can look for another tournament, go practice somewhere for free, or turn their computers off. A one-time elimination format puts an end to your night in tournament play when you don’t advance. These elimination rounds continue until the winner is established, along with the second, third and however many other paying positions are established. The winner is the player with the most chips after all the smoke clears. It’s customary that 5 or 6 top spots pay cash prizes. For the relatively low buy-in cost, you’re going to play quite a few hands of blackjack. If you’re new to tournament play, or to blackjack in general, you can find free tournaments online that operate solely for the purpose of giving you a tournament experience and practicing on honing your techniques. You’ll of course have variations on the formats for these tournaments, like head-to-head play, single table play, or tournaments like Sit ‘n Go. Despite how intimidating the idea might sound, tournament play online is recommended for beginners because of the practice you get, and the real-time experience you get against other players. |
